SCCLFF is proud to support 1000 Books Before Kindergarten.
What is 1000 Books Before Kindergarten?
1000 Books for Kindergarten is a free program that encourages parents to read 1,000 books with their child before he or she begins kindergarten. The goal is to promote early literacy through the library by giving parents a fun incentive to read to their little ones early and often.
How does the program work?
The program is self-paced and can be started any time before a child enters kindergarten. The library provides starter packets and small prizes for achieving milestones, and families get a bigger prize if they complete all 1,000 books before their child begins kindergarten. You can find more information about the program and sign your child up at sclibrary.org/1000-books (there’s even a free app to download), and you can pick up your starter packet and milestone prizes at the Youth Services desk.
1000 Books Before Kindergarten is paid for through money raised at book sales – when you shop, you support initiatives like this one!
