How to donate books

piles and boxes of donated books

So you’re cleaning off your bookshelves and you want to donate some books to the Santa Clara City Library Foundation & Friends. Great! How do you do that?

If you only have a few books – I would say 10 or less – we invite you to drop them in the book donation bin outside the Friends Bookstore at the Central Park Library.

If you have a few bags or boxes, please bring them into the Friends Bookstore. The volunteer manning the bookstore will be able to help you manage the donation, even if they can’t help you lift the boxes and bags.

If you have more than eight bags or boxes, or the bags and boxes that you have are heavy, please bring them to the back loading dock door, dial the number listed on the keypad and someone will open the door so that you can unload your materials in the receiving department.

A tax-deductible donation receipt will be available either at the back door or in the bookstore.

Please note that we will accept: books, DVDs, VHS, cassette tapes, vinyl records, and CDs. We do NOT accept encyclopedias, magazines, and conference proceedings. Please look through your books to make sure they are not water damaged and/or do not have mold spots before you donate them.

Thank you for thinking of us!
