On Monday evening, July 9th, around 200 people gathered at the site of the future Santa Clara City Library Northside Library branch to celebrate and break ground. Rajeev Batra, Director of Public Works led off by describing the project and welcoming all the guests. Santa Clara Mayor Jamie Matthews spoke about the values libraries provide our community, and Santa Clara City Library Foundation President Barbara Hounslow talked about her past, growing up in Santa Clara and using the library, and about the foundation plans to construct and raise funds for the library and programs. City Librarian Julie Passalacqua finished by speaking more specifically about the cutting edge library that is planned and how the city is preparing for it.
Keypoint Credit Union, Peets Coffee, and Yan Can Asian Bistro provided refreshments, and Great America sent Snoopy to entertain and delight the many children attending.
Construction on the library should begin later in the month and finish in the fall of 2013.
