Santa Clara City Library Foundation and Friends Receives $1.5m Donation

[Santa Clara, CA, April 14, 2026] The Santa Clara City Library Foundation and Friends (SCCLFF) received their largest donation to date from the estate of Betty L. Wilson. Mrs. Wilson was a long-time patron of the Central Park Branch and left the bulk of her estate to the SCCLFF, whose mission is to strengthen the library as a pillar of our diverse and thriving community.

This donation is not only transformational for the SCCLFF but will have a long-term impact on our entire community. Last year, there were over 750,000 visits to the City’s three library branches; nearly 1,500 classes and events were offered free of charge, and over 70,000 community members attended at least one class/event. This donation will enable the SCCLFF to provide even more support for new and innovative programs, expansion of existing programs, and to plan for future library needs.

“This support from Betty L Wilson means that the library will be able to expand our programs to provide services to the community who need it the most – especially our children, youth, and families. We will be able to reach more people than ever before! And will help people achieve their dreams.” Patricia Wong, Santa Clara City Librarian.

While all donations are deeply appreciated, bequests are particularly meaningful. They represent a thoughtful, lasting decision to align one’s life savings with causes that truly matter. It is clear that Mrs. Wilson’s heart was with the Santa Clara Library and the invaluable resources it provides to our community.

At SCCLFF we are humbled that she trusted us to be good stewards of the funds and ensure they support the library she loved for years to come.
