Anybook Pens making a difference!

We’re so happy to be continuing to support the Anybook Pens in our community through the family literacy program! Here’s a story from one of our librarians:

Several library staff along with volunteers had recorded themselves reading children’s books using the Anybook pens.  After checking with SCUSD staff, we decided to give the book bags with Anybook pens to two state preschool classes at Montague Elementary. (Three state preschool classes at Scott Lane Elementary already have them.) Priya visited the classes and found they had few books in the classrooms. So she gave them book bags, as well as several donated picture books (thanks to SCCLFF!) to build small classroom libraries.

The teachers then asked for a bookmobile stop on campus- thanks to Cody for making that possible!  When Priya went to Family Giving Tree to pick up backpack donations, they showed her a bunch of pillows Walmart had donated that they weren’t sure anyone would need. She took them to the preschool classes and now they have a colorful reading corner!

Ellin and Priya did their first family literacy event for the classes this week with 40 parents and children.

The families got books and backpacks (given by the Muslim Community Association) and were engrossed in the puppets and storytime.

We have encouraged them to get library cards and the teachers will promote the bookmobile visits to these preschool families.
