The State of California proposes to abolish all California Library Literacy and English Acquisition Service Program funds.
Read Santa Clara provides adult literacy tutoring to 100 English-speaking adults per year. Students are matched with volunteer tutors who work with them one-on-one to achieve their literacy goals. Can you imagine the challenge of life without being able to write a complete sentence, fill out a job application, pass a driver’s test, or read to a child you love? Read Santa Clara adult literacy students are striving towards and achieving these goals, and many more, every single day.
If this cut goes through, Read Santa Clara will lose $45,000 per year in funding. This funding currently pays for workbooks, tutor training, software, and other tutoring materials. It is unlikely that these funds can be supplied through any other avenue. PLEASE help the Read Santa Clara adult literacy students by sending a letter to your state assembly representative. Visit this page for a sample letter and a list of assembly people to contact.
Thank you for your support of Read Santa Clara.
