Celebrating Read Santa Clara

It’s back-to-school time, so it’s time for a Read Santa Clara display at City Hall! From Read Santa Clara:

It’s Back-to-School time! As students head to classrooms to learn, adults who wish to become stronger readers and writers can head to the library! This is the theme of Read Santa Clara’s display in the City Hall trophy case. (Thanks to Karen Masada for this eye catching display!)

“I am a mother. I am a student. I want to help my daughters more with their homeworkand to be a volunteer at their school. I want to show them that school is very important. I give thanks to people who donate their time to help us read and write.”  – Veronica

If you see an adult who can converse in English, but is struggling with a task involving basic reading/ writing or basic math, such as filling out a form,  please talk to them about Read Santa Clara. Some adults, especially those who speak English well, may not want others to know about their lack of literacy skills. This sometimes prevents them from asking for help. You can provide a referral without putting them on the spot by saying, “ If you know someone who would like to strengthen their reading, writing or math skills, our library has a free, confidential tutoring program for adults. They can call (408) 615-2956 to learn more.”

Read Santa Clara does so much for this community. If you would like to support them, please make a donation and specify that it’s for literacy or Read Santa Clara in the notes.
