Congrats to the Read Santa Clara Leaders in Training!

Sixteen adult learners successfully completed Read Santa Clara’s first Leaders in Training (LIT) program held from August 26-28 at the Mission Library. The workshops for adult learners, facilitated by ReJoyce Ross and Marilyn Dippell, included hands-on learning through group activities, and discussion on topics such as self-esteem, leadership, public speaking, goal setting and advocacy. The attendees also heard inspiring talks by guest speakers, Loren Rucker and Faye Coombs, who shared their challenges and how they had overcome them to take on leadership roles in their lives.

Here are some comments from the participants:

“I am a piece of the big puzzle and I can be a voice in my community. It makes me a positive person.”

“I can turn dreams to goals.”

“I will use all I learned from this training in my life, such as a way to communicate with people.”

“The Leaders in Training workshops help you learn more about yourself and builds your self-esteem.”

The workshop was made possible by generous donations to the Santa Clara City Library Foundation and Friends (SCCLFF) from Betsy Megas, a literacy tutor and former Library Board of Trustees member, and Suzie Keels, an adult learner and community volunteer.
