Enriching lives through life-long learning
The mission of the Santa Clara City Library Foundation & Friends is to strengthen the Library as a pillar of our diverse community through fundraising, partnership, and advocacy.
One way we fulfill our mission is via the Read Santa Clara program – a program that connects volunteer tutors with adult literacy learners.
Here is the inspiring story of M, a learner in the program:
Three children cheered as their mother M received her AA degree at a recent Mission College graduation. With her children was the Read Santa Clara tutor who had helped M every step of the way. M had had to juggle many family and work responsibilities during her years of study, and she credits her tutor for being so patient and flexible. Her advice to others? “Never give up! There is no excuse for giving up on your learning.”

Libraries help everyone develop who they are. Thanks to your generosity, last year the Santa Clara City Library could offer these and many other activities.
- A poetry contest for children to explore their creativity.
- ESL classes and book clubs for adult immigrants to learn English, make friends, and expand their community.
- Comic Con, introducing families to new types of literature and inspiring reluctant readers.
- Summer Reading for all ages, which helps students stop the summer slide in reading skills while school is out. And which introduces adults to books they might not otherwise read.
- Family story times to pass literacy skills like reading comprehension and critical thinking to the next generation.
Will you give today?
Your year-end gift will give more people the opportunity to continue their love of learning at the Santa Clara City Library: whether it is teen cooking club, a young mother bringing her child for one of the library’s bilingual storytimes, or an adult studying for a new career.
Your gift of $300 could host a job interview skills session. Your gift of $600 could support a series of science talks. Your gift of $1,000 could support active senior programs. These are just three of many activities your donations could make possible in 2019.
Please donate! We ask that you consider making the most generous donation you can.
Your gift creates brighter futures. Without you, nothing we do would be possible.
Thanks for all you do!
