It is the start of Summer Adventure, the Santa Clara City Library’s summer reading program! (You should sign up, no matter your age.)
If you are a person who wants more structure around their reading, consider joining one of the library’s book clubs. They have a few, all for different audiences. One might be for you!
First up is the Romance UnBook Club! This group meets on the first Tuesday of each month at the Mission Branch Library. An unbook club is one where people don’t all read the same thing ahead of time; instead, each participant brings books they want to share with the group.
This is a great way to find new-to-you romance novels, and for you to share your favorites!
The 2025 Reading Challenge is a contest with yourself to read 12 books, one each from 12 different categories before the end of 2025. This is another unbook club format, where you bring suggestions for each category. This can be helpful if you’re having a problem finding a book to fit one of the categories. Or maybe you have found a book you really love that you want to share with other people.
This book club is meeting quarterly through 2025. The next meeting is Tuesday, June 3 at 6 PM online.
If you speak English fairly proficiently, but it’s not your first language, consider coming to the library’s ESL Book Club! They meet on the first Friday of most months at 10:30 AM at Central Park Library to discuss an English-language book.
The next meeting will be on Friday, June 6 at 10:30 AM. The July meeting will be on the second Friday, July 11, as the first Friday is a holiday.
If you’re interested in exploring the world of graphic novels and are 18 or older, consider the graphic novel book club! It meets on the second Thursday of most months at 5:00 PM at Central Park Library. This month, they’re talking about “So Long Sad Love.”
The Central Park Book Club is probably what you think of as a typical book club. It’s a group of adults who get together on the fourth Monday of each month to discuss a book. It’s often fiction, but they spread their choices across multiple kinds – nonfiction, poetry, short stories, and the like.
Their next meeting is Monday, June 23 at 10:30 AM at Central Park Library.
There are so many ways the library is there to support your reading this summer!
