Giving Tuesday: Computer Classes

2014.12.02 Girls who Code 0857

The Santa Clara City Library is creating a community of life-long learners in Silicon Valley. One of the ways we do that is through computer classes. We have computer classes at all levels – from how-to-use-Word tutorials up through learning how to actually program a computer.

The above photo is a session at the library lead by Girls Who Code, to get girls interested in coding. You’ve certainly heard about the gender gap in software engineering – this is one of the ways we’re making a difference. One of our patrons, having taken the class, wrote an app called Math-a-morphosis. It helps elementary school kids learn their math facts.

Your donations help us put on more computer and programing classes at all levels. Our librarians put on great programs (or help other groups put on great programs) so all our patrons can increase their digital skills. This definitely helps them keep up in today’s world!

#GivingTuesday is on Tuesday December 1st! We want you to donate money to the Santa Clara City Library Foundation & Friends that day. Of course the money you give to the Foundation & Friends buys books and DVDs. But it also funds other wonderful things, like computer classes.

Please donate on December 1st. If you donate more than $150 that day, your name will be entered into a drawing for a football from the 49ers signed by Reggie Bush. Thanks for your support!
