How to donate your books

Do you have some books, movies, and/or music that you’d like to donate to us? Great! We love donations!

Book and DVD donations to the Santa Clara City Library Foundation &  Friends benefit the community: $38,000 worth of donated materials were added to the collection last year, and over $100,000 was raised through the sale of books. We estimate that our book sales find new homes for approximately 9,000 books each and every month, benefiting literacy and education in our community as well as keeping books out of landfills!

How to donate books, movies, music, and other media

You can drop items off at the Central Park Library anytime it is open. Please drop items off at the bookstore in the lobby if it is open, or in the bin in front of the bookstore if it is not. If you have a LARGE donation (8+ boxes), please bring them to the back loading dock door, dial the number listed on the keypad and someone will open the door so that you can unload your materials in the receiving department. A tax-deductible donation receipt will be available.

At the moment, we only accept donations at the Central Park Library, not the Northside or Mission Branches.

What We Accept

We accept DVD, VHS, vinyl records, cassette tapes, and CD’s. We accept all books (including textbooks!).

We do NOT accept:

  • Encyclopedias
  • Books with water or mold damage (if that box has been sitting in your garage for awhile, please open it and take a look for these before donating, please)
  • Magazines
  • National Geographics
  • Conference proceedings or similar publications

THANK YOU for donating your used books, music, and movies!
