At the semi-annual Santa Clara City Library Foundation and Friends Grant Party, over 50 volunteers gathered in the Cedar room at Central Library. There, they heard presentations from the library staff about different programs that could be funded with monies raised in the Friends bookstore and Saturday sales. After the votes were tallied, thirteen different programs received full funding, including things like refreshing the juvenile paperback section in the library to replace worn books and buy additional copies of popular ones, art and craft supplies for programs at the Bill Wilson Center to encourage literacy, materials to help residents gain fluency and learn English, and funding for job hunting and financial educational classes.
