Mary Hanel’s Historic Santa Clara Tour will be available at our silent auction

Santa Clara Town Hall to advertise the Historic Santa Clara Tour being available for the auction at Librarypalooza

We’re so happy to have Mary Hanel offering a tour of Historic Santa Clara as one of our auction items this year at Librarypalooza! Her tours are always one of the most popular items. From her this year:

“This year I would like to offer a walking tour of the City Hall and Triton Museum of Art area. At City Hall we can discuss its history and the story of the St. Clare and Universal Child statues on the City Hall  grounds, take the ‘Stroll Through History’ tour of the City Hall grounds that was created for the City’s Sesquicentennial in 2002 and go into the East and West Wings of City Hall to see the many early 20th century historic photographs of Santa Clara that were placed at City Hall in 1992 in honor of the 140th anniversary of the City.  After exploring City Hall and perhaps having something to eat in the City Hall Cafeteria. we can cross over to the Triton Museum of Art area.  We can talk about the history of the Triton Museum including when and why it was built near City Hall.,If it is open we can also venture into the Museum and learn about its public programs.  We can then explore the park  and grounds that surround the Triton Museum looking for various sculptures and other outdoor public art.  We will also view the exteriors and discuss the stories behind the nearby Jamison-Brown and Headen-Inman Houses — both of which were moved into the park — but at different times. We can also talk about the story of the Santa Clara Players and their theater building  in the area between the two historic houses. Optionally, after this, we can walk down Lincoln Street towards El Camino Real passing the United  Methodist Church and learning of its long history in Santa Clara and its earlier location and then finish by walking to the Geof Goodfellow Sesquicentinnial Park at Lincoln and El Camino Real where we can learn about the significance of its location and about the man for whom it is named.”

Register today to be able to bid on what will surely be a popular item at Librarypalooza.
