According to a recent Gallup Poll, 17% of adults didn’t read a book in 2021. That same poll found that a drop in people who read more than 10 books a year from 35% in 2016 to 27% in 2021.
To combat that, The Santa Clara City Library has been working to bring authors to talk about their books. An author talk can help drive up reader engagement. But authors need to be compensated for their time. And that can only happen with funding from the Foundation and Friends.
