Have you heard of the summer slide? That’s what happens when kids don’t read over the summer – their skills can fall by as much as one grade level.
But children who read at least 6 books over the summer maintain or improve their reading skills.
Our patrons enjoy Summer Reading! We asked last year’s participants why they join. “Because it is awesome sauce!” said one, echoing many people’s enjoyment of the program.
This is a program that wouldn’t exist without support from our donors. The Santa Clara City Library Foundation and Friends provides the prizes for Summer Reading finishers. We support concerts and programs that bring people into the library over the summer.
All proceeds that we raise on May 3rd as part of Silicon Valley Gives will go to support the Summer Reading program. Please donate next Tuesday!
