The Santa Clara Holiday Historic Home Tour, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, is scheduled for Friday, December 7 and Saturday, December 8. Four private homes plus two of the oldest historic buildings in Santa Clara — the Santa Clara Woman’s Club Adobe and the False Front Italianate-style 1860s-era Larder House on the Santa Clara University campus will be on this year’s tour. At the Larder House, learn about the history of Santa Clara’s immigrant German Colony and see how the University has adapted the interior as an Anthropology Department Laboratory.
Queen Anne Victorian, Craftsman Bungalow, Colonial and other historical architectural styles will be featured. One of the private homes, the circa 1903 ‘Dugdell-Pinkham House,’ is a bungalow with pronounced craftsman features but also some colonial revival detailing. Three of the private homes are on the Tour for the very first time.
As a bonus this year, the Mission Library at 1098 Lexington Street which is open Saturday during the Tour and will stay open until 10 p.m. December 7th, the Friday night of the Tour, invites those on the Tour to stop in for hot chocolate and a visit. This recently renovated branch library has many brand new materials plus a ‘Heritage Home’ book collection.
Tickets may be purchased at City Lights Espresso, 1171 Homestead Road, Santa Clara (at Jackson Street across from the Post Office) and at Antiques Colony, 1881 West San Carlos Street, San Jose.
