How far do your donations go? It’s a question any donor wants answered. To that end, we have the finalized summer reading 2022 statistics. And we want to share them with you!
“I liked that the program focused more on the days that we read books, more than the amount of books we read.”
The Santa Clara City Library used a new approach this year: counting days read instead of number of books. How did it work? Well…
- Summer Reading Participants read 69,885 days!
- 2,884 people of all ages signed up to participate in summer reading (twice as many as 2021!)
- 1,403 people finished summer reading, 71% aged 12 or younger
- All 12 and under finishers went home – over 1,000 children – with a free book.
You helped over 1,400 people, especially students, keep up their literacy skills over the summer!
Concerts, crafts, and activities
The concerts and activities that go along with the summer reading program are important for drawing people both to the program and the library. To that end, 9,990 people attended our in-person, outdoor summer concerts across all three library programs. That’s almost 10,000 people who came to the library because of your support!
Making Summer Reading inclusive
The Santa Clara City Library wants to make sure its summer reading program reaches as many people in our community as possible.
- This year all summer reading materials were available in both Spanish and English.
- A quote from one participant: “I liked that it was very inclusive and anyone of all ages could participate.”
- 99% of summer reading survey respondents were encouraged to read and learn more over the summer
Thank you!
The Summer Reading is typically the biggest program we support in any given year at the Santa Clara City Library. Summer reading wouldn’t happen without both individual donors and our corporate sponsors. We want to call out our sponsors for the 2022 Summer Reading Program, especially:
- Mission City Community Fund
- Intel
- Enterprise Holdings Foundation
- KeyPoint Credit Union
To support the Summer Reading Program or other classes, events, and resources at the Santa Clara City Library, you can make a donation today or at any time.
