WE NEED YOUR HELP TO SAVE THE NORTHSIDE LIBRARY

ACTIONS BY THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA AND SANTA CLARA COUNTY MAY STOP THE NORTHSIDE LIBRARY FROM BEING FINISHED OR OPENED

Santa Clara County filed for a temporary restraining order against the City of Santa Clara, forcing the City yesterday to request that the Library’s Foundation & Friends halt any further progress towards the completion of Santa Clara’s Northside Branch Library. The Library is 99.9% completed and had been expected to open in December.

The County’s RDA Oversight Board is requesting the City return the $19.2 Million that had been set aside for construction and FF&E of the Northside Library decades ago. The County’s RDA Oversight Board had been informed on March 23, 2012 about the project, and told that preparations were being made for the groundbreaking and the hiring of the contractor. Since that time, Bogard Construction was hired for the project, construction is nearly complete, and over $11 Million has been spent.

FIGHT TO SAVE THE NORTHSIDE LIBRARY

What you can do to help:

  1. COME TO THE ACTION RALLY
Wednesday, September 4th, 4:30pm – 6:30pm in front of the new Northside Library — right by the orange “SaveOurNorthsideLibrary.com” sign. Bring the family! Wear an orange shirt if you have it.

  2. LET THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY SUPERVISORS KNOW YOU CARE AND WANT THEM TO HELP RESOLVE THIS SITUATION

The next opportunity to address our elected representatives who have the ability to help resolve the conflicts keeping the Northside Library from opening is the next meeting of the Redevelopment Dissolution Oversight Board, on September 23rd at 2:00pm in Santa Clara City Council Chambers.  Please come, and put your name in at the start of the meeting and ask to talk during the public comment period.  You’ll have up to three minutes to address the board.  Depending on whether this item is on the agenda or not, you may also be able to discuss why they should find that this is a civic designated building that should be returned to the city.

  3. CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVES
Look here for people to contact. Call or email weekly until politicians come together and save the Northside Library. Let them know you care and you’re paying attention.

  4. DOWNLOAD THIS FLYER AND POST IT IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND GIVE IT TO YOUR FRIENDS
The more people know about this and make their views heard the more likely we can change things for the better.  Download this flyer Northside Call to Action.pdf with this information and post and pass it out!
