Where does the money go?

It’s our favorite time of year: pie chart time! That is, we’re letting you know what our revenue sources are and how that supports the Santa Clara City Library.

A pie chart showing what portion of SCCLFF's revenue comes from Individual Donations (45.7%), book sales (33.2%), and corporate donations (21.1%).

Your donations continue to be the biggest part of our revenue, so thank you for your support! When we say we couldn’t do this without you, we mean it.

Booksales are also a crucial part of our revenue stream. Who knew that selling gently-used books, movies, and music for $2 apiece could raise tens of thousands of dollars? (We knew. That’s why we do it.)

Finally, corporate and institutional grants and donations make up the remainder of our revenue. Our corporate and institutional partners are an important part of keeping the Santa Clara City Library a thriving and diverse cornerstone in our community.

A pie chart showing where SCCLFF spends money on the library: Adult classes & events (29.9%), Comic Con (28.5%), Children's, Teens, and Family Programs (17.9%), Summer Adventure (15.4%), and Literacy (8.3%)

Our expenses change from year to year, depending on what the library needs. This year, Comic Con was back! Which means a large chunk of our support went to supporting that fabulous community program.

Summer Adventure continues to make us a significant chunk of expenses as well – this is a super-important literacy program that keeps students reading throughout the summer.

Our Children’s, Teens, and Family programs are things like Bricks by the Books, and K-Pop SC, two popular one-day programs.

These bigger programs happen alongside other, smaller, regular programs like playtimes, parent support, tutoring, and more.

Thank you so much for your support of the Santa Clara City Library Foundation and Friends, and we hope you enjoyed this peek behind the scenes!
