Of the few things I remember from when I was a young child, my first visit to the small town library where I grew up stands out in particular. The wonder and sense of discovery I experienced then continues to this day to remind me of what a special place a library can be. A place where you can give your imagination free reign, that can feed your hunger for knowledge and creative thought, and provide the tools, resources and ingredients to inspire unlimited personal achievement.
While that initial visit was all about books (it was the 1950’s after all), libraries today are all about life. Going beyond the almost unbelievable access to information in all its modern forms, libraries have become centers of learning, personal growth, community engagement, provocative and thoughtful discussion, expression of ideas and creative invention. And its all there for everyone – free of charge. That has to be the best deal in town!
